Here is the feature’s list according to Digidesign:

  • Professional sound quality (up to 24-bit/48 kHz)
  • Two simultaneous analog inputs and outputs
  • One XLR analog input for connecting a microphone
  • Two ¼” line-/instrument-level (DI) analog inputs for connecting guitars, basses, keyboards, synthesizers, drum machines, and more
  • Zero-latency monitoring
  • Compact, rugged metal enclosure for maximum portability and durability
  • Powered by USB (USB 1.1 connection, cable included)
  • Front-panel volume control and monitor mute switch
  • Two ¼” analog monitor outputs
  • Stereo headphone output
  • V phantom power
  • Kensington Security Lock

The Mbox 2 Mini measures 5 x 6 x 1.75″ (12.7 x 4.4 x 15.2 cm) and weighs 1.12 lbs (just over 500 grams). It wil be abailable in December, and will retail at $329. The complete specs are available here.

Unfortunately, as Peter from Create Digital Music points out, no stripped down version is available and current users of Pro Tools LE will have to pay again for the software if they’re just interested in the small interface.

This is nice for us music editors who just bring a laptop to the dub stage. I’m not sure it will make me ditch my original mbox just yet however.

It sure is a nice piece of gear. I wish Digi had priced it below the $300 psychological bar though. And, as I mentionned, since many interested buyers already own Pro Tools LE, it would have been niced to get a non-bundled version.
